The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has welcomed the appointment of Paul Morrell OBE, as the Government's first Chief Construction Advisor.

Speaking today, RIBA President Ruth Reed said:

"The RIBA welcomes Paul Morrell's appointment. We feel confident that Paul's considerable and varied experience will ensure that he truly champions and represents the construction sector. Paul has been an ambassador for good design having been at CABE. Now more than ever we need a focus on the construction sector looking at sustainable construction, the recovering economy and regulation of the industry. We look forward to working with him on the challenging workload he will have over the coming months."

The appointment comes as a result of sustained calls from built environment and construction professionals, including the RIBA, who contributed to a consultation in March, calling for a more coordinated approach towards construction policy.
