The RIBA Council awarded 16 new Honorary Fellowships in 2006 to professionals from a wide range of backgrounds, including design, architectural photography, teaching and the media. The RIBA’s 2006 Honorary Fellows were:

• Ian Callum, engineer and designer
• Peter Cook, architectural photographer
• James Dyson, designer
• Dennis Gilbert, architectural photographer
• Jonathan Ive, designer, Apple
• Anne Kriken, planner, Global Office Arup New York
• Mark Lawson, journalist and broadcaster
• Per Lindstrand, engineer
• Kester Rattenbury, teacher and journalist
• John Ritblat, developer, British Land
• Jörg Schlaich, structural engineer
• Simon Silver, development director, Derwent Valley Holdings
• Robert Smith, quantity surveyor, David Langdon
• Jon Snow, broadcaster
• Vivienne Westwood, fashion designer

The Honorary Fellowships were presented at the Royal Gold Medal and Fellowship Dinner on 15 February 2006 at the RIBA. 

The nominations were considered by a special jury chaired by the President, which also selects the Royal Gold Medal. The jury for the 2006 Honours Committee included: Jack Pringle, RIBA President, Ian Ritchie, Ian Ritchie Architects, Odile Decq, Architectes Urbanistes, Chris Wilkinson, Wilkinson Eyre, Professor Peter Cook, Amanda Baillieu, RIBA Journal and Brian Clarke, artist and Honorary Fellow.
